Long-Term ATV Storage Tips
Along with your boat and RV storage, we offer ATV and jet ski storage. From a small unit that may hold only one of these vehicles, to a large one that can hold them all, we have your solution. Your “toys” will be safe and secure with us. With extended access hours, you can pick them up when you’re ready to hit the road or enjoy a day on the lake.
Give your quad a complete cleaning and lubrication. Spray WD-40 into your exhaust pipe to avoid rust and then cover the opening to deter pests.
Hook your battery to a battery tender to keep it charged during long-term storage.
If your ATV has a metal tank, don’t drain the fuel. Fill it and add a fuel stabilizer to avoid rust. Run the engine for a few minutes to distribute the stabilized fuel. If you have a plastic gas tank, you can drain the fuel from this tank as well as from the carburetor and fuel lines.
Old oil has debris that can congeal to the engine components during storage. Change the oil and filter and let your engine idle for 5-10 minutes. It’s a good idea to run the engine every month to keep all of the moving parts lubricated.
You can inflate your tires before storing your ATV or check your storage unit regularly to add air. Use blocks to lift your quad instead of resting the tires on frozen concrete.
Cover your ATV with a breathable fabric that won’t trap moisture. Don’t use plastic, which will trap moisture and encourage rust.
Long-Term Jet-Ski Storage Tips
Run the engine at 30-second intervals to drain the water while tilting the handle back. Next, flush the cooling system to ensure all dirt, algae, and grime are removed.
Wash the hull with mild soap and then clean and wax the shell of your vehicle. Next, clean the bilge area to wash away excess grime.
Fill the gas tank with a stabilizer and run the engine at 30-second intervals to ensure that the stabilizer is mixed with the fuel. Then, lubricate all seals and cabling.
Remove the air filter and spray the carburetor and spark plug cylinders with fogging oil while the engine is idling. Replace the air filter when you’re finished. Then, remove the spark plugs and spray the oil to coat the internals of the vessel. Finally, replace the spark plugs.
Consider hooking your battery to a battery tender to keep it charged during long-term storage.
Use a high-quality cotton cover to protect your jet ski from dust, dirt, and the elements. It’s not advisable to use a plastic cover due to moisture buildup.
